The ADP-180-30 is a DC motor drive module produced by Copley Controls within the Accelnet CANopen Modules series. It operates as a power stage that conditions a fixed DC bus and supplies controlled current to servo motors used in industrial automation cells. The module closes the current and position loops directly at the machine, minimizing wiring length while maintaining communication with higher-level controllers over the CANopen fieldbus.
The drive accepts an input of 180 Vdc and supports a continuous phase current of 15 Adc, with short-term output up to 30 Adc for rapid acceleration. Continuous operation at this current provides a sustained output of 2.6 kW, while the one-second peak interval raises the available power to 5.2 kW during indexing moves. The drive requires a minimum motor inductance of 200 µH, and its low output resistance of 0.075 Ω helps reduce conduction loss. PWM switching occurs at a ripple frequency of 30 kHz, spreading energy across a higher bandwidth so that conducted noise is easier to filter. The enclosure measures 98.8 mm wide, 29.7 mm deep, and 167 mm high, allowing modules to be mounted closely together on a backplate.
A current loop that refreshes at 15 kHz and a velocity and position loop processed at 3 kHz provide the control bandwidth needed to follow fast command changes without excessive overshoot.
