Product Description:
The ADP-090-36 is a digital servo drive module from Copley Controls that belongs to the Accelnet CanOPEN Modules series. It serves as the power and control interface between a CANopen motion controller and a brushless servo motor, converting high-voltage DC into modulated phase currents so automated axes can follow torque, speed, or position commands with tight accuracy. Its slim housing and pluggable connectors allow direct mounting inside machine enclosures where space is limited in industrial automation cells. This layout supports compact motion systems that need distributed drive electronics close to the motor and controller wiring.
The drive delivers a continuous motor phase current of 12 A, translating to a sustained mechanical output of 1.06 kW when the DC link is kept at its maximum of 90 Vdc. For rapid accelerations or short load spikes, it can source up to 36 A for one second, raising instantaneous shaft power to 2.95 kW before the current foldback logic engages. A switching rate of 15 kHz minimizes audible noise and improves current loop bandwidth, while the low 0.036 Ω output resistance reduces I²R losses. Input requirements are matched to 24–90 V battery or rectified supplies, drawing 13.3 A continuously and 40 A at peak. The aluminum baseplate measures 167 × 98.8 × 29.7 mm, providing conduction paths for heat removal as well as drilled holes for panel mounting. This construction helps the module fit tightly packed control spaces without requiring a bulky standalone enclosure.
Position feedback support includes incremental encoder emulation at 16384 counts/rev and quadrature decoding up to 20 MHz, enabling high-resolution motor commutation without external interpolators. An internal supply furnishes +5 V at 400 mA for sensors, and the thermal safeguard disconnects the power stage at 70 °C to prevent excessive junction temperatures. Overall module mass is only 0.43 kg, so it adds little load to DIN rails or backplates. These feedback and protection functions help maintain stable drive operation during demanding motion cycles.
