The ADP-090-18 is a compact digital servo drive module produced by Copley Controls for the Accelnet CANopen Modules series. It operates as the power stage between a CANopen motion controller and a brushless or brushed motor, converting bus voltage into precisely regulated phase current while monitoring feedback devices. By handling torque and velocity loops at the drive level, it frees the PLC from high-frequency control tasks and streamlines axis integration in automated assembly cells, material-handling gantries, and test rigs.
The power section is rated for a bus voltage of 90 Vdc. Within that limit, the drive can sustain 6 Adc to the motor, which corresponds to a continuous output of 0.53 kW. For startups or quick positioning moves, it supplies up to 18 Adc for one second, delivering 1.55 kW of peak output power before the programmed 1 s timeout forces a return to the continuous ratings. Thermal protection is enforced by an internal sensor that triggers at 70 °C. Safe operation with low-inductance windings is supported by a minimum load requirement of 200 µH, and copper losses are limited by an output-stage resistance of 0.075 Ω. The current loop runs at 15 kHz, while the velocity loop updates at 3 kHz, matching typical servo bandwidth demands.
A current loop bandwidth of 2.5 kHz allows tight control of torque transients. The switching section operates at a PWM ripple frequency of 30 kHz, which shifts acoustic noise beyond the audible range and reduces motor current ripple. The drive accepts position feedback from digital encoders at frequencies up to 5 MHz, and additional motion data is exchanged over the CAN bus at user-selectable rates. The enclosure measures 167 × 98.8 × 29.7 mm and weighs 0.43 kg, enabling installation on densely populated backplates without adding excessive mass.
