The ACM-180-18 is a single-axis servo drive module engineered by Copley Controls for the Accelnet CANopen Modules series. Acting as a decentralized amplifier, it accepts motion commands over a CANopen bus, generates pulse-width-modulated power, and regulates current for brushed or brushless DC motors in conveyors, pick-and-place heads, and light material-handling axes. By closing the control loops near the actuator, the module minimizes network latency and maintains precise positioning in tightly synchronized industrial automation cells.
Drive dynamics center on a current-loop bandwidth of 2.5 kHz, and the controller recalculates the loop at 15 kHz; this fast update rejects load disturbances before they affect motion quality. The position loop is refreshed at 3 kHz, and incremental step inputs can be received at rates up to 2 MHz, preserving fine interpolated moves. For rapid acceleration, the amplifier delivers a peak current of 18 Adc. Two protected high-side outputs can each supply 1 Adc to energize brakes or relays. Ten digital inputs and two digital outputs provide deterministic sequencing. Internally, a 15 kHz PWM carrier drives the power stage. The control logic accommodates ripple components around 30 kHz, permits bursts up to 100 kHz, and enforces a minimum pulse width of 220 ns to keep switching losses predictable.
The differential command range is ±10 Vdc, with an input impedance of 5 kΩ, allowing direct connection to PLC analog outputs without excessive loading. Logic outputs can supply a field voltage of up to +30 Vdc for sensors that require external excitation. The aluminum housing measures 102 × 69 × 25 mm, allowing multiple modules to be stacked on a DIN rail while requiring minimal cabinet depth. Its compact enclosure supports dense panel layouts, while the available analog and digital connections accommodate command, sensor, brake, relay, and sequencing functions.
