Internal Product Review

The ACM-090-24 is a Copley Controls Accelnet CanOPEN module engineered for motion-control applications, with a 90 Vdc rating and 12 Adc continuous current. A 15 kHz current loop update rate paired with 3 kHz position/velocity update supports crisp regulation and stable dynamic response. Peak capability of 24 Adc for 1 s gives the module strong short-term acceleration performance.

Product Description:

The ACM-090-24 is a compact DC-powered servo drive produced by Copley Controls for the Accelnet CANopen Modules series. The unit converts a regulated bus supply into pulse-width-modulated motor phase currents and exchanges motion commands over a CANopen network. In automated machinery, it acts as the power stage and position controller for brushless or stepper motors, allowing precise axis control without requiring substantial panel space.

Rated for a supply of 90 Vdc, the drive can maintain a continuous phase current of 12 Adc and deliver 1.08 kW of output power to the motor. Its 5 kΩ analog command input accepts velocity or torque references from external sources with minimal loading, while a current loop that refreshes at 15 kHz keeps phase regulation stable under changing loads. Motion commands received through CANopen are processed at a 3 kHz position and velocity update rate, and encoder signals are accepted at up to 8 Mcount/s to preserve resolution at high speed. For step-and-direction applications, the pulse translator handles rates up to 2 MHz. Ten digital inputs and two digital outputs support limit switches, enable signals, and fault signaling. Internally, the power stage uses a 15 kHz PWM carrier with a 30 kHz ripple suppression scheme to limit motor noise and current ripple.

For short accelerations, the amplifier supplies a peak current of 24 Adc and up to 2.16 kW for as long as 1 s, allowing rapid indexing without requiring an oversized motor. Command fidelity is preserved by a PWM minimum pulse width of 220 ns, which sets the lower limit for duty-cycle resolution at high carrier frequencies. The electronics, power stage, and connectors are housed in a module measuring 102 × 69 × 25 mm, so it fits densely packed multi-axis cabinets and can be mounted close to the motor to reduce cable impedance.
