The 800-1840 is a compact digital servo drive module produced by Copley Controls within the Accelnet CANopen Modules series. Designed to mount near the motor or inside control cabinets, the module converts CANopen motion commands into regulated current, velocity, and position outputs for brushless and stepper axes used throughout industrial automation. By integrating its own control loops and multiple feedback interfaces, it delivers deterministic actuation for assembly cells, conveyor zones, and pick-and-place gantries while minimizing the load on the controller.
The drive operates from a bus rated at 90 VDC, and it requires a minimum line-to-line inductance of 200 µH to keep current ripple within limits. A current loop that refreshes at 16 kHz works with a PWM generator that can issue pulses as short as 220 ns, allowing precise torque modulation even on low-inductance windings. Feedback is captured at up to 20 Mcounts/sec, while the velocity and position loops are updated at 4 kHz for smooth profile execution. The encoder port can source 500 mA, supporting high-resolution digital sensors. Absolute position resolution reaches 13 bits per revolution with a 16-bit revolution counter. The drive accepts stepper emulation at up to 2 MHz, and its analog command port has an input resistance of 5.05 kΩ.
For machine sequencing, the controller stores 29-bit absolute position data and supports a cam engine with 10 tables for controlling real-time on-and-off output according to position. Complex motion can be triggered through an internal indexer that retains 32 sequences, with each sequence linking moves, waits, or I/O actions without PLC intervention. When analog scaling is required, the input is digitized with 12-bit precision, and serial diagnostics can be accessed through an RS-232 port that transmits at up to 115,200 baud.
