The 800-1797 is a compact DC motion drive from Copley Controls supplied under the Accelnet CANopen Modules series. It interfaces with CANopen networks to regulate brushless or brushed servomotors in automated machinery. The unit converts bus commands into precisely timed power-stage switching for velocity and position control tasks. Its compact module format allows it to be integrated into machine control systems that require networked motion and responsive motor regulation.
The drive can deliver a continuous motor phase current of 10 A DC, providing sustained torque under rated thermal conditions. For short bursts, the current rises to 20 A DC and can be maintained for up to 1 s, supporting rapid acceleration or transient load changes. To prevent excessive current rise, the motor winding must provide at least 200 µH of inductance. The power devices switch at 16 kHz, shifting audible noise above the typical human hearing range while keeping switching losses moderate. A high-speed current loop regulates motor torque, while the velocity and position loop operates at 4 kHz to follow command trajectories accurately.
The aluminum heat sink and printed circuit board assembly measure 76.3 × 58.2 × 20.5 mm, enabling installation in crowded control spaces or embedded motion stages. The drive provides 11 optically isolated inputs for limit, home, and user-assigned functions, while six sourcing outputs report fault or in-motion states. This input capacity permits direct connection of common machine sensors without requiring an additional I/O card. Analog commands enter through a differential port with 12-bit resolution, supporting torque or velocity override modes. An internal monitor halts the output when the baseplate reaches 70 °C, protecting the power semiconductors from excessive heat. For motor feedback, the unit supplies 5 V at 400 mA and accepts incremental encoder signals at line frequencies up to 5 MHz. Its feedback interface can process up to 20 million counts per second, allowing accurate position capture at high motor speeds.
