The module is a USB-to-fieldbus converter that links a computer to valve amplifiers installed on a PROFIBUS DP network, allowing parameter downloads and live diagnostics during industrial automation tasks. It fits directly into control cabinets and serves as the primary programming interface, eliminating the need for dedicated fieldbus cards in the host computer. This connection allows configuration software to communicate with distributed amplifier stations through a standard USB port.

The unit supports the PROFIBUS DP fieldbus protocol, permitting deterministic exchange of setpoints and status words with amplifier stations. For local service connections or network extensions, it offers an RS-485 connector that maintains signal integrity over typical plant distances. Telegrams move across the network at up to 12 Mbit/s, so parameter updates do not slow motion sequences. Embedded processing is handled by an MC 68302 paired with an ASPC2 coprocessor. These controllers buffer messages in 16 kByte of dual-ported RAM, isolating host reads from fieldbus refresh cycles. Support for DP master classes 1 and 2 allows the adapter to initiate cyclic polling and manage basic acyclic diagnostics without auxiliary gateways.

The unit draws its operating current from the USB bus, so no external power supply is needed.
