The DEF0111 universal card is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the VT-UK2 Universal Cards series. It provides the signal-conditioning layer between an incremental encoder and a motion controller in industrial automation. By reshaping quadrature tracks into phase-stable logic signals, the board lets a drive register position changes at high speed and locate reference marks with nanosecond precision, supporting accurate closed-loop control on packaging, printing, and assembly equipment.
The card draws power from a steady 5 V backplane rail at 250 mA, fitting standard controller power budgets. Incoming A and B channels can toggle at up to 1000 kHz; an edge distance of 250 ns and a 50 ns reference-point delay keep time skew limited for tight motion tolerances. Logic swings between a low state of 0.5 V and a high level of 2.5 V, securing clear margins for TTL receivers. Internal processing applies fourfold interpolation, so each electrical cycle produces four position counts and raises resolution without altering the encoder. Phase alignment is fixed with Ua1 released at 0° electrical and Ua2 shifted 90° electrical to maintain quadrature decoding. Screw mounting secures the board directly to the carrier frame inside the control rack.
Field wiring is handled with an INK 0209 shielded cable that follows the (2x1.0+4x2x0.25)C conductor layout, supplying two power cores and four twisted signal pairs under a common braid. The harness terminates at connector position X22, where the mating plug uses the industry-standard 15-pin D-sub format, allowing off-the-shelf encoder leads to be installed. The common shield and balanced signal pairs help protect the high-frequency encoder signals from electrical interference as they travel between remote sensors and the universal card. The separate power conductors allow the encoder supply to share the same harness without occupying the twisted pairs used for position data. This cable arrangement also supports organized routing through control cabinets and machine frames while keeping the encoder connection compact.
