Designed for mounting inside Rexroth valve or controller racks, the card converts back-plane signals into optical form so distributed modules can share data in electrically noisy industrial automation cells. By isolating copper wiring from the control network, it reduces ground loops and supports high-speed serial links between motion controllers, hydraulic amplifiers, and supervisory PLCs. This arrangement helps preserve communication quality when cabinets are spread across a machine and exposed to electrical noise from drives, valves, and switching power circuits.
It draws only 100 mA from the rack’s auxiliary rail while operating from a typical 24 V external supply, keeping heat dissipation low for dense card cages. The default serial stream is clocked at 2 MBaud, a rate that meets most closed-loop axis requirements, and optical emission at startup is limited to 350 µW, minimizing oversaturation of short jumpers. For paths that demand more bandwidth, the circuitry can be switched up to its maximum rate of 4 MBaud. Low current demand also helps the card fit into compact rack assemblies where several interface modules share the same auxiliary supply.
Signal integrity over plant-wide trunks is aided by a permissible link attenuation of 12.5 dB, which allows longer multimode fiber runs before repeaters are needed. When higher optical output is needed, the card provides a boosted level of 1000 µW at the transmitter output. Reception is equally tolerant: the photodiode and comparator accept optical power down to 10 µW, allowing reliable decoding after dust buildup or connector wear. Physical termination uses the industry-standard FSMA ferrule, which supports compatibility with common patch cords. The optical path also uses a 30 nm spectral bandwidth, with 16 V high-level and 5.5 V low-level electrical thresholds at the nine-pin back-plane header.
