The SPM 50-TD inverter module is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the SPM Inverter Modules series. It converts a shared DC bus into precisely timed three-phase voltages that run servo and spindle motors, enabling axis control and speed regulation in automated machining centers and assembly lines. Its role is to deliver controlled motor power while supporting coordinated motion across multiple machine axes in the same drive system.
The module draws its logic power through the control supply pins X1.5 and X1.6; this pair accepts a stabilized 24 V feed that keeps the internal processor, gate drivers, and diagnostic LEDs active even when the main line is disconnected. Motor phase current is routed through the X1 terminal, which keeps high-power conductors separate from the shielded X5 motor encoder port so feedback wiring remains less affected by switching noise. Fault conditions are transmitted on the X35 interface, and pins X35.4 through X35.6 switch the externally provided 24 V fault supply to energize relays or light towers. Velocity and current-loop behavior can be checked with the integrated setpoint reference that sources 7.8 V, a level matched to standard oscilloscopes.
Multi-axis synchronization is handled through the X8 module-link connector, allowing neighboring inverters to share clock, enable, and field-weakening data without an external gateway. Expansion boards connect through the X6 option socket, while precision spindle position is obtained through the X55 encoder input that accepts TTL or RS-422 quadrature signals. Once the gate drivers are charged and self-tests pass, the ready contacts BTB1 and BTB2 close to signal the PLC that the drive can accept torque requests. The isolated 24 V fault output section helps avoid ground loops, and the status lines POS, n=0, n=ns, and I2t provide real-time logic levels for position reached, zero speed, rated speed, and thermal integration monitoring.
