The SM50-100 is an AC inverter manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the SM AC Inverters series. Designed for industrial automation, the device converts fixed mains power into a variable AC output so that connected motors can run at commanded speeds, ramps, and torque levels suited to conveyors, presses, and material-handling cells. The housing combines power electronics, signal conditioning, and protective circuitry, allowing the unit to be mounted as a single module for closed-loop speed and torque regulation.
The inverter delivers a continuous phase current of 50 A and can supply up to 100 A for 2 s during acceleration or load shocks. Above an ambient temperature of 45 °C, output is reduced at a derating slope of 1.2 %/K, and the internal design limits thermal dissipation to a maximum power loss of 350 W. Speed feedback is scaled across a 1:10,000 regulating range by a tacho signal of 2.7 V per 1000 rpm, while a ±10 V reference circuit provides a +10 V command output to external followers. The analog command port presents a high input impedance of 10 kΩ, minimizing loading on supervisory PLC cards. Nominal control electronics draw only 30 W from the DC bus, and the PE terminal accepts a 10 mm² protective-earth conductor to comply with touch-current safety requirements.
Cooling air is moved by an integral fan powered from a 24 V DC auxiliary rail that draws 100 mA, preventing the internal assembly from reaching the thermal ceiling of 55 °C during extended operation. A dry contact labeled “Ready” can switch 24 V at 1 A DC, giving the host controller a definitive signal once the inverter is synchronized and safe for torque commands. Isolating the fan circuit and status contact from the power stage keeps control references stable and minimizes conducted noise toward adjacent PLC or sensor wiring.
