The SM 5/10-TC1 inverter is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the SM AC Inverters series. It is an AC drive that converts low-level speed commands into regulated motor current for precise velocity control in industrial automation. By linking analog reference signals to a three-phase output stage, the unit lets machine controllers vary motor speed and torque over a wide dynamic range. This operating method supports stable speed regulation in applications that require smooth response to changing load conditions.
Internally, the inverter presents a command input impedance of 10 kΩ, so standard PLC analog outputs can drive it without excessive loading. That input is referenced to a control-board output of 10 V, which simplifies the use of external potentiometers for speed setting. The power stage delivers a rated motor current of 5 A and can reach 10 A for two-second overload events. With a speed control range of 1:10,000, the drive maintains fine resolution from very low speeds to rated motor operation. Enable logic uses 24 V DC, the ready relay can switch 24 V at 1 A DC for interlocking, the integrated fan is powered by the 24 V DC auxiliary rail, and the control electronics draw 20 W while dissipating up to 60 W under maximum loss conditions.
For thermal management, the fan draws 100 mA from the auxiliary rail and pushes air across open-frame heat sinks. Continuous operation is permitted at ambient temperatures up to 55 °C and at altitudes up to 1000 m, while storage is permitted to 70 °C when the cabinet is de-energized. Speed feedback can be linearized with a tacho scale of 2.7 V/1000 rpm, which matches the drive command path to the motor's generator constant.
