Product Description:
The SM 5/10-TC is an AC inverter produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the SM AC Inverters series. The unit converts fixed-frequency mains power into a variable voltage and frequency output so induction or synchronous motors can be speed-controlled in process lines, conveyors, or test stands. By managing motor torque electronically, it replaces mechanical speed-change components and integrates easily with closed-loop automation through tachogenerator or encoder feedback.
To manage internal temperature, the inverter powers an external blower that draws 100 mA from a dedicated 24 V DC feed. Its intermediate DC link sits at 460 V, providing sufficient headroom for rapid modulation across the full speed-regulating ratio of 1:10,000. Feedback wiring can be routed up to 100 m through the encoder channel without signal repeaters, which simplifies cabinet layout. The device can be mounted up to 1000 m above sea level and continues working until the ambient temperature reaches +55 °C, provided airflow remains unobstructed. An IP00 protection rating means it must be installed inside a closed panel to shield live parts.
Its semiconductor and filter network dissipate a maximum of 60 W, so the electronics only demand 20 W from the control supply during idle. During acceleration bursts, the output bridge can deliver a peak of 10 A for two seconds, while steady-state operation is limited to 5 A. The thermal model trips at 140 °C measured in the motor windings, and the ready relay can switch 24 V at 1 A DC to report status to the PLC. A tacho scale of 2.7 V per 1000 rpm aligns with common analog speed loops, and a PE conductor size of 2.5 mm² grounds the chassis. This combination of motor monitoring, status signaling, and analog speed feedback lets the inverter connect cleanly to the surrounding control system during normal operation.
