The SM 5/10-TCT is an AC inverter module developed by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the SM AC Inverters series. As an adjustable-speed drive, it converts a high-voltage DC bus into a controlled three-phase output, allowing automation equipment to regulate induction or synchronous motors with closed-loop precision. Within a machine control cabinet, the unit interfaces with Indramat drives and PLCs to coordinate motion profiles, manage torque, and limit overload during continuous duty cycles. This arrangement lets the controller issue commands while the inverter supplies the regulated motor power needed to carry them out.
During normal operation, the inverter delivers a continuous phase current of 5 A, and the analog monitor output reaches 10 V when the current reaches Imax, following the internal 10 V = Imax rule. Its DC link must be supplied with DC 560 V, while the logic circuits draw a separate 24 V DC control supply. Thermal safeguarding begins with a heatsink sensor that trips at 80 °C to protect the semiconductors. For SE-B2/B3 drive profiles, the Ixt algorithm uses a cutoff threshold of 4.2 min⁻¹, so energy accumulation is evaluated four times per minute before shutdown. The housing measures 47 cm in length, 35 cm in height, and 7 cm in width, so cabinet depth is the main sizing concern during installation.
The motor circuit is monitored separately, and a trip is issued at 145 °C when the embedded temperature sensor detects excessive winding heat. Power cycling must respect a minimum delay of 2 s so internal capacitors can discharge before re-energizing. When service work is performed, terminal blocks are tightened to 3.7 N·m to maintain low-impedance joints across the full load range. Status codes appear on a 7-Segment front-panel display, and non-latching faults can be cleared with a 24 V DC reset signal. For drives configured under the SE-B4/B5 profile, the Ixt cutoff is 2.8 min⁻¹, which provides faster protection for smaller thermal masses.
