Product Description:
The SM 5/10 is an AC inverter manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and assigned to the SM AC Inverters series. It interfaces between a drive controller and a three-phase motor to modulate speed and torque in automated machinery such as packaging stations or material-handling lines. The unit accepts encoder signals and delivers conditioned outputs so the drive can close its velocity loop without external signal conditioning. This arrangement supports stable motor control in compact automation systems where feedback handling and power conversion need to be combined in one assembly.
The inverter supplies a continuous motor current of 5 A and tolerates peaks to 10 A during rapid load changes. Internally, heat generation under full load is limited to 60 W, and reliable function is maintained up to +55 °C ambient temperature. Its open frame carries a protection rating of IP00, so installation inside a protected cabinet is required. A 24 V DC enable input allows the inverter to operate only when the safety chain is closed, while the ±10 V Sw2 input provides an analog speed command. The ready contact can switch 24 V DC at 1 A to report operating status to upstream control logic, and protective earthing uses 2.5 mm² PE conductors to meet fault-current requirements.
Thermal management relies on one axial blower that draws 100 mA from a 24 V DC supply. The electronics consume an auxiliary power budget of 20 W, which helps size control-cabinet power rails accurately. Position and speed feedback are carried through incremental channels A, B, C/1, 2, and 3, and the tacho output generates 2.7 V per 1000 rpm for drives that use analog velocity signals. The assembly is specified for operation up to 1000 m AMSL without derating. These feedback and cooling features support consistent operation during normal speed changes and varying machine loads.
