Product Description:
The SM 35/70 inverter is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the SM AC Inverters series. It serves as a power-conversion stage that transforms fixed three-phase mains into a variable-frequency, variable-voltage output for precise motor speed control. In automated lines, the unit is integrated between the plant supply and the motor to regulate torque, accelerate loads smoothly, and coordinate motion with external PLC commands. The design targets compact drive sections on conveyors, feeders, and packaging equipment that need responsive adjustments.
Electrically the inverter is dimensioned for a continuous output of 35 A, while temporary overloads can be serviced up to 70 A for acceleration or shock events. The internal DC bus is stabilized at 460 V, allowing the controller section to synthesize wide output frequencies; with vector control it maintains a speed regulating span of 1:10,000 from minimum to base speed. Because the housing is classified as IP00, the device must be mounted inside a switchgear cabinet that provides protective shielding and airflow. Auxiliary consumption is limited to 26 W, and the cooling fan runs from a 24 V DC line that supplies 100 mA. Ground continuity is achieved with a PE conductor of 6 mm².
Environmental limits define the drive’s placement in the control enclosure. It operates from 0 °C up to 55 °C; above 45 °C the allowable output current must be reduced by 1.2 % per K. Thermal energy dissipated under full electrical load reaches 250 W, so cabinet ventilation has to evacuate that heat to keep parts within rating. The inverter sustains full performance to elevations of 1000 m AMSL before altitude corrections apply. For periods when equipment is idle, it may be stored between –25 °C and 70 °C without damage. These ranges, together with the internal cooling design, keep semiconductors stable across the specified climate band.
