The SM 25/50-TA is an AC inverter produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the SM AC Inverters series. Designed as the power stage in industrial automation, the module receives low-level drive commands and delivers controlled three-phase output to induction or synchronous motors. By combining current monitoring with tacho feedback, it maintains accurate speed regulation, making it suitable for conveyor lines, material-handling stations, and general-purpose motion axes.
The power section is rated for a continuous motor current of 25 A, while transient demands up to 50 A can be supplied for two seconds to overcome acceleration or break-away torque. Thermal energy created by switching devices is limited to 200 W; this heat is removed by the inverter’s Forced Ventilation path, driven by a cabinet fan that draws only 100 mA when fed from the dedicated 24 V DC auxiliary supply. A current monitor output provides a full-scale signal of 8 V so the machine controller can view real-time load without intrusive sensors. For speed loops, the built-in tachometer interface scales feedback at 2.7 mV per rpm, allowing direct connection to analog drives. Terminals are left open to the enclosure interior, reflected by the IP00 ingress rating, so installation inside a protected panel is required.
Environmental limits define acceptable installation sites. The inverter operates from 0 °C up to 55 °C without derating and can be stored safely down to −25 °C or up to 70 °C. Altitude is capped at 1000 m to keep dielectric spacing and cooling performance within design margins. Beyond these thresholds, forced panel cooling or reduced loading must be engineered by the user. The open-frame housing simplifies airflow but requires that conductive dust, dripping fluids, and inadvertent contact be excluded by the surrounding cabinet.
