Product Description:
The SM 18/60-GC16 inverter is made by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the SM AC Inverters series. Designed for variable-speed control of three-phase induction motors in factory automation, it converts a fixed DC link into a modulated three-phase output so drives can match process requirements while reducing energy loss. This operating method allows the inverter to regulate motor speed and torque for automated machinery that requires stable, adjustable output.
The unit operates with a carrier clock of 5 kHz, striking a balance between acoustic noise and switching losses. Its internal DC link is stabilized at 325 V DC, providing headroom for dynamic torque commands. Under continuous fan-assisted cooling, the output stage can supply 18 A, while overloads up to 60 A (5 s) are accepted for acceleration or braking bursts. Even during these peaks, overall converter dissipation remains limited to 13 W, which helps reduce heat buildup inside the cabinet. Two programmable relay outputs allow direct signaling to external interlocks or status lamps, and CAN bus connectivity links the inverter to higher-level controllers for parameter download and diagnostic exchange. Operation is rated for installations up to 1000 m above sea level, and climate class 3K3 indicates suitability for non-condensing industrial environments.
The mechanical outline supports compact panel layout, with a width of 91.44 mm, a depth of 255.85 mm, and a height of 262.1 mm. With an installed mass of 3.5 kg, the drive can be mounted without additional bracing. The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, so live parts are finger-safe, but the unit must be housed in a closed cabinet where dust or fluids may be present. Thermal monitoring uses a dual-point strategy: a warning is issued at 70 °C so airflow can be increased, and a shutdown is enforced at 104 °C to protect the power devices. The warning threshold provides time for the system to respond before the protective shutdown level is reached.
