The SM 17/35-TS02 is an AC inverter module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the SM AC Inverters series. Serving as a drive interface between a rectified supply and a three-phase induction or synchronous motor, it permits closed-loop speed regulation, controlled torque delivery, and coordinated motion sequences inside automated cells, packaging lines, and material-handling equipment. The device integrates a power section, gating electronics, and status relays in a panel-mount format intended for use with external controllers and safety interlocks.
The inverter operates with a DC link window from 460 V minimum to 700 V maximum, giving the drive operating margin for regenerative energy while maintaining safe semiconductor stress. Under continuous duty, the power stage draws 17 A, and it tolerates momentary surges up to 35 A during acceleration or rapid deceleration. Heat produced by the switching devices is limited to 150 W, so the control cabinet must be ventilated to remove this waste heat and keep the electronics within an ambient range of 0 °C to 55 °C. Internal logic and gating circuits need only 22 W from the auxiliary supply, and the assembly can function without derating at elevations up to 1000 m above mean sea level.
A small axial blower connected through a 24 V DC feed draws 100 mA to force air across the heat sink and support cooling in the open-frame housing. The ready relay contacts are rated for 24 V at 1 A DC, allowing the controller to signal drive-ready status to higher-level safety circuits. Encoder feedback from a tacho generator can be linearized with a scaling factor of 2.7 V/1000 rpm, simplifying speed matching in the control loop. During transport, the inverter withstands -25 °C to 70 °C, and the enclosure is rated IP00, so installation must occur inside an enclosed panel with touch and particulate protection.
