The SM 10/20 is an AC inverter manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and supplied within the SM AC Inverters series. It conditions the DC link of a common-bus supply and generates a variable three-phase output for induction or synchronous motors. This supports closed-loop speed and torque regulation in automated machinery, material-handling lines, and test stands.

This inverter delivers a continuous phase current of 10 A, which is the steady-state load the drive can support without thermal overload. For two-second transients, it can reach 20 A, providing headroom for rapid acceleration or shock loads. The internal DC link operates at 460 V, matching standard Rexroth supply modules and supporting the peak output voltage available to the motor. A speed regulating capability of 1:10,000 means commanded motor speed can be be reduced to one ten-thousandth of base speed while maintaining control resolution. The open-chassis construction is rated IP00, so the unit must be installed inside a control cabinet where ambient contamination and accidental contact are controlled. Current derates by 1.2% per kelvin above 45 °C, and a tacho output of 2.7 V per 1000 rpm is available for legacy feedback while encoder connections may span up to 100 m without signal conditioning.

The maximum operating temperature is 55 °C, beyond which additional cooling or load reduction is required. Up to 90 W of power loss is converted to heat, so the optional blower powered from 24 V DC can be used to direct airflow over the heat sink. Continuous duty is specified to 1000 m AMSL, and reduced air density above that height lowers cooling performance. The control electronics require only 20 W for internal logic, and the protective earth conductor should be 2.5 mm². Storage is permissible to 70 °C, and humidity class F indicates the moisture exposure tolerated during operation.
