The Bosch Rexroth Indramat SMibs is part of the SB System Box Units series and is designed as a slave for InterBus-S field bus systems. This unit supports up to 160 I/O points, uses a pure I/O coupling, and weighs 0.05 kg. It is compatible with KE300/310, KE312 communication units and SE3xx, SEH3x2 controllers.

Product Description:
The SMibs interface card is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for integration into the SB System Box Units series. Within a system box, the module provides a direct InterBus-S link so discrete sensors, actuators, and controller logic can exchange process data over the plant fieldbus. By occupying a dedicated slot inside the enclosure, the card converts parallel I/O signals from terminal blocks into serial telegrams that an automation master can scan during each cycle.
The card communicates on the InterBus-S trunk in the network’s designated slave position, sending or receiving data in each 2-byte address increment. A minimum configuration maps only 16 I/O points (2 bytes) when few signals are present, while high-density wiring can expand the table to 160 I/O points (20 bytes) without requiring different hardware. These byte-oriented limits allow the programmer to allocate memory precisely and avoid wasting bus bandwidth. Pure I/O coupling allows the board to pass raw bit states without internal preprocessing, leaving the host PLC to apply debounce or timing logic as needed.
The module uses the Peripherals Communication Protocol, and corresponding status words move through the PCP data channel that shares the same communication medium as cyclic I/O. Result messages therefore arrive alongside standard process data without requiring extra cables. For cabinet assembly, the device slides into an unoccupied card slot that remains isolated from power modules. Upstream nodes, such as KE300/310 and KE312 communication units, and downstream motion stations, such as SE3xx and SEH3x2 controllers, detect the board automatically during the InterBus-S scan. Because the coupling operates as pure I/O, the master treats every bit as a direct field contact, which simplifies fault tracing and signal monitoring. The card weighs only 0.05 kg, so it adds little load to the mounting rail when several modules occupy the system box. Its low mass also limits additional mechanical stress on the card slot during normal machine vibration.
