The SB356 is a modular system box unit produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the SB System Box Units series. Designed for installation alongside machinery, the cabinet groups power distribution, drive controllers, and fieldbus interfaces so that several motion or I/O channels can be served from a single protected enclosure. By integrating these resources, the unit simplifies wiring and shortens commissioning time in conveyor, packaging, and assembly lines that require decentralized control.

Electrically, the system box accepts a three-phase supply of 3 x 400 V AC at 50/60 Hz, matching the standard plant mains found in Europe and many international facilities. Inside the enclosure, transformers and protection circuits are sized for a continuous load of 2500 VA; during acceleration or tool engagement the internal bus can furnish up to 10000 VA without exceeding its thermal limits. The ingress-protected housing is rated at IP54, so dust deposits and water splashes do not reach live parts, and the overall design meets Protection Class I grounding and Overvoltage Category 3 requirements. One dedicated network coupler slot permits direct connection to fieldbus or Ethernet backbones, allowing the box to appear as an addressable node in distributed automation cells.

Mechanically, the enclosure measures 600 x 510 x 470 mm with its mounting base and weighs 55 kg when empty; a fully equipped configuration reaches 75 kg but stays within common panel-handling limits. Up to 6 channels can be fitted in a single box, and coordinated expansion is possible because as many as 16 SB or BT units may be networked together. This multiplies the available capacity to 40 channels while keeping signal distances short. Reliable operation is specified up to 45 °C ambient temperature and 2000 m above mean sea level, so the box can be placed in elevated or non-conditioned areas of a factory floor.
