The RKL4738 is a combined motor-power and control cable manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RKL Motor Power Cables series. In automated production lines it links drive amplifiers to servo or spindle motors, transmitting phase current while carrying encoder or brake signals in the same sheath. Supplying both circuits through a single flexible assembly simplifies routing in cable chains and reduces panel space, making the cable suitable for multi-axis machining centres, robotic articulations, and material-handling conveyors that operate with frequent dynamic motions.

Mechanically, the cable measures 36.8 mm across its outer jacket and may be bent to a minimum radius of 7.5 × D during moving-track installation, permitting repeated flexing without conductor fatigue. Each of the four power cores uses stranded copper sized at 50.0 mm², enabling continuous currents that match medium-frame servo motors. The insulation system is halogen-free and the sheath is made from PUR (adhesion-free, matte), so the assembly resists oils, coolants, and abrasion while avoiding corrosive combustion gases. For traction drive circuits it supports a phase-to-phase operating voltage of 300/500 V under VDE guidelines, and the orange RAL 2003 colour simplifies identification inside energy chains and floor conduits.

Electrical parameters are tuned for low loss and stable signal quality. The loop resistance is 0.386 Ohm/km, limiting voltage drop over extended machine axes. Two shielded pairs provide feedback lines, each pair built from conductors with a cross-section of 2.5 mm²; together with the four power-independent control wires they are rated for 300/300 V control duty. A capacitance of 1.3 nF/m keeps reactive current low so inverters can switch at high frequencies without excess heat. When flexed the wire temperature may rise to +80 C; in static routing it can tolerate up to +90 °C, giving thermal headroom in enclosed ducts.
