Bosch Rexroth Indramat manufactures the RS51.1-4G-006-D-NN-FW/S150 basic drive as part of the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. Housed inside a control panel, the device converts three-phase mains power into a regulated output for asynchronous motors used in conveyors, pumps, and other factory mechanisms. It communicates with higher-level PLCs through standard digital and analog signals, allowing the automation system to start, stop, or vary motor speed to match process demands. It is intended for cabinet-mounted use in conventional industrial power systems. This operating concept suits variable-speed applications where straightforward motor control is more important than high-dynamic motion performance.

The converter accepts line voltages from 380 to 480 V, which matches common low-voltage distribution networks in industrial plants. It remains functional when the input deviates by up to ±10 %, helping the drive continue operating during moderate supply variation. It is a 3 × AC converter that rectifies incoming three-phase power, filters the DC bus, and inverts the energy into a synthesized AC output waveform. The power section is rated for 6 kVA, making it suitable for small to mid-frame induction motors in auxiliary axes and material-handling duties. Speed regulation uses U/f curve control, which keeps the ratio of stator voltage to frequency constant so the motor can maintain magnetic flux and usable torque across its operating range.

Thermal energy produced in the power stage is led outside the cabinet by a plug-through cooler, which helps reduce heat buildup around other panel components. During deceleration, a built-in brake chopper and resistor absorb regenerated energy and help prevent DC-bus overvoltage during rapid stops. Conducted electromagnetic interference is reduced by an integrated mains filter, which helps the installation meet EMC requirements without extra line components. As a design generation 1 product, the drive uses the mechanical dimensions, terminal layouts, and parameter structure of the first RD 500 releases.
