As an AC drive control unit, it converts DC bus energy into controlled three-phase output for induction or synchronous motors. This allows precise speed and torque regulation in conveyors, extruders, and similar industrial automation cells. By adjusting output frequency and current to match operating demand, the controller helps connected motors accelerate smoothly and maintain stable operation under changing load. It is suited for industrial processes that require repeatable motion behavior and consistent motor control during extended run times.

The unit delivers a rated mechanical output of 200 kW, which is the maximum continuous motor power the controller can supply under nominal conditions. Incoming DC bus energy must stay within 700 V so that the semiconductor switching devices remain within their safe operating area. The supply is categorized as Inverter DC, which means the module is intended to operate on a common DC link rather than draw power directly from line voltage. In shared bus systems, this arrangement allows multiple drives to use the same intermediate circuit. Motor regulation is executed through field-oriented vector control, which adjusts stator current components independently for fast torque response and stable low-speed operation. Heat is removed by liquid cooling with an internal pump (≥ 132 kW), allowing dense cabinet layouts without external heat sinks.

The unit operates without a built-in brake chopper, so any dynamic braking resistor must be installed externally on the DC link. That arrangement places braking components in the surrounding system instead of inside the controller housing. The unit is in Design Generation 1, which matches the initial RD 500 release. Firmware must be ordered as a separate subposition. This keeps the hardware and software selections separate.
