The RD52.1-7N-022-L-V1-FW is a drive controller built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. It converts DC bus energy into controlled three-phase output so that induction or synchronous motors follow precise speed or torque commands issued by the plant PLC. Designed for cabinet installation, the unit integrates power electronics, vector-based regulation, and diagnostic interfaces to form the motion backbone of automated machining cells, packaging lines, and material-handling equipment.

This controller supplies up to 22 kW of mechanical power, positioning it for medium-duty pumps, fans, and conveyors. Its DC link operates between 530 to 670 V, allowing connection to common 600 V rectifier sections without hardware changes. Closed-loop regulation is handled by field-oriented vector control, which modulates stator currents to maintain dynamic torque response even at low speeds. Thermal management relies on forced air cooling, so unobstructed airflow through the heat-sink channels is required for continuous full-load service. The unit ships without a built-in brake chopper, so an external resistor module must be added when rapid deceleration or overhauling loads could generate excess regenerative energy.

As a product of design generation 1, the hardware platform aligns with the earliest option cards and parameter structures in the RD family. A dedicated auxiliary input delivers 24 V standby power, which keeps the control electronics active during mains isolation and allows communication and memory retention. The control software is ordered as a separate subposition, allowing the feature set to be selected for the application. The power stage is fed from an inverter DC bus, permitting multiple RD controllers to share a common supply and exchange regenerated energy without additional rectifiers.
