Bosch Rexroth Indramat builds the RD52.1-4N-160-R-NN-FW/S109 as part of the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. This liquid-cooled converter operates as a closed-loop AC drive controller, feeding variable-frequency power to high-power motors in automated presses, extruders, and material-handling systems. By regulating voltage, current, and frequency, it supplies precise speed and torque commands that integrate with PLC-based line controls. The unit acts as the interface between a plant's three-phase mains supply and the connected motor system, making it suitable for processes that require controlled acceleration, steady running speed, and repeatable load response.

The drive has a rated output of 160 kW, a capacity suited to high-power motor applications. The input network can vary between 380 to 480 V while remaining within a supply tolerance of ±10 %, allowing stable operation during common utility fluctuations. Motion control uses field-oriented vector control, so torque remains closely proportional to current even at low shaft speeds. This control method is useful where smooth response is needed during startup, speed changes, or varying load conditions. Thermal stability is provided by liquid cooling with an internal pump, which removes heat from the power section and supports continuous operation under demanding duty cycles. Optional technology functions are not installed.

In operation, power enters through a three-phase AC converter front end, and electromagnetic interference is attenuated by the factory-installed integrated mains filter. The hardware is categorized as Generation 1, so its dimensions and connector layout follow the first RD500 cabinet release. The unit is supplied without a built-in brake chopper, so dynamic braking energy must be handled externally. This layout separates the braking function from the converter itself and leaves room for system-level braking components where required. No application-specific function boards are fitted.
