The RD52.1-4N-011-D-NN-FW drive controller is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. It serves as the central power conversion stage between a three-phase mains supply and an AC motor, using pulse-width modulation to regulate torque and speed for conveyor sections, winding stations, and similar motion axes. Installed in the converter position of a cabinet, the unit interfaces with higher-level control systems through standard fieldbus options so production equipment can execute repeatable closed-loop movements.

This model uses field-oriented vector control to calculate instantaneous phase currents, allowing dynamic response at both low and rated speeds. Thermal losses are managed by a plug-through cooler rated for ≤ 110 kW, with the heat sink projecting outside the cabinet to help keep internal temperatures lower for adjacent devices. The power stage uses a three-phase AC converter and accepts line voltages within a 380–480 V range, making it suitable for worldwide 400 V class grids. An integrated mains filter attenuates high-frequency switching noise, so additional RFI components are often unnecessary. This layout helps keep the cabinet arrangement simpler where space for separate filtering hardware is limited.

The hardware is delivered without a built-in brake chopper, so dissipative braking requires an external module when regenerative peaks exceed the DC-bus capacity. Input fluctuations of up to ±10 % tolerance are accepted without derating, which helps the drive continue operating through moderate utility swings. Internal circuit boards correspond to design generation 1, which is intended for first-generation RD 500 option cards. Application-specific control software follows separate firmware ordering. Because the Functions slot is not equipped, optional expansion cards can be added later when extra interfaces are required.
