The RD52.1-4B-400-F-V1-FW is a drive controller from Bosch Rexroth Indramat in the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. Installed between the plant’s three-phase mains and its servo or induction motors, it modulates voltage, current, and frequency. This allows motion axes to follow programmable setpoints with the precision required in material handling lines, presses, and continuous-process equipment. It can also support controlled acceleration and deceleration where fixed-speed motor operation would not be sufficient.

The controller accepts a three-phase input because it is a Converter 3 x AC unit. Its power section operates across a line window of 380 to 480 V, and the design remains functional when the incoming mains fluctuates within a ±10 % band. At full load, the inverter section can deliver up to 400 kW to connected motors. Vector regulation is executed by field-oriented vector control, which calculates instantaneous flux so that torque follows reference commands without slip. Thermal energy produced by the IGBTs is removed through forced-air cooling with integrated liquid circulation, a hybrid scheme that combines airflow with a closed coolant path to keep the heat sink below critical temperature.

Dynamic energy from rapid deceleration is dissipated inside the housing through a built-in brake chopper, eliminating the need for an external resistor module on moderate duty cycles. Line-side interference is suppressed by an integrated mains filter, so the drive can be installed on industrial grids without additional RFI components. For the control electronics, the unit uses external 24 V standby power, allowing parameter memory and fieldbus links to remain active when the main power stages are off. This arrangement keeps low-power control functions available independently of the motor power section.
