Bosch Rexroth Indramat manufactures the RD52.1-4B-132-F-VW-FW as part of the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. This unit functions as a drive controller that conditions three-phase mains power and feeds it to industrial motors. It allows closed-loop regulation of speed and torque in automated material-handling lines, mixers, and packaging stations. It can regulate acceleration, steady-state speed, and deceleration so the driven machine responds consistently to changing process conditions.

The controller accepts a line voltage between 380 to 480 V and uses a three-phase AC converter supply, so it can be wired directly to standard factory power grids. Its continuous output capability reaches 132 kW, which supports high-inertia loads as well as large blower or pump drives. This power range is appropriate for heavy-duty conveyors, large ventilation systems, and other machinery that must start under load. Motor regulation is handled through field-oriented vector control, which measures stator currents and calculates the rotating field angle to maintain precise torque even at low speeds. Thermal management relies on forced-air cooling with integrated liquid circulation; a fan moves air across heat sinks while an internal coolant loop carries heat away from the power semiconductors.

Dynamic braking demands are covered by a built-in brake chopper that diverts regenerative energy to external resistors and helps prevent DC-bus overvoltage during rapid deceleration. Mains-side interference is reduced by an integrated mains filter, so additional line reactors are not normally required to meet EMC requirements. Keeping these functions inside the controller reduces the number of external devices needed around the power section. Application flexibility is expanded by the control combination V1 + W1, which provides speed-controlled and torque-controlled operating modes that can be selected through parameters. Component tolerances on the input stage are rated at ±10 %, allowing the device to maintain performance when the supply fluctuates within a typical industrial range.
