The RD52.1-4B-045-L-NN-FW drive controller is built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. It interfaces with automation PLCs and regulates the voltage, frequency, and phase of three-phase motors so that conveyors, pumps, and process machines maintain commanded motion profiles. By converting fixed plant power into variable-frequency output, the unit provides precise torque and speed regulation required in industrial production cells and material-handling lines. This operating approach also supports applications that need controlled starts, smooth speed changes, and repeatable motor response under changing loads.

Control is executed through field-oriented vector control, a method that separates motor current into torque-producing and magnetizing components for fast dynamic response and stable low-speed behavior. Thermal management relies on forced-air cooling; an internal fan moves air across the heat sink so rated output can be sustained in enclosed panels when adequate clearance is provided. Regenerative energy produced during braking is routed to a built-in brake chopper, allowing an external resistor to protect the DC link from overvoltage during deceleration. This is useful on systems with frequent stopping or reversing, where returned energy can rise quickly during braking events. Continuous mechanical output reaches 45 kW, which suits medium-frame motors used on extruders, agitators, and similar industrial loads. The input section accepts mains within 380 to 480 V, allowing operation on common 400 V and 460 V plant networks.

Power enters the controller as a three-phase AC supply, meaning the incoming line is rectified before inversion for motor control. Conducted electromagnetic noise is reduced by an integrated mains filter, which helps limit interference in cabinets that contain sensitive control wiring and nearby electronic equipment. Supply deviations of up to ±10% tolerance are permitted, so moderate voltage sag or swell can be absorbed without immediately interrupting operation. The filter is especially useful where the drive shares an enclosure with PLC I/O, communication lines, and low-level signal wiring. The unit belongs to design generation 1, and the optional function slot is not equipped.
