Bosch Rexroth Indramat produces the RD52.1-4B-022-L-NN-FW drive controller for the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. The unit serves as a link between three-phase plant power and motor windings, executing closed-loop speed and torque regulation in automated machinery. By converting fixed-frequency mains into variable frequency and voltage, it enables precise, repeatable motion cycles that replace mechanical gear changes in conveyors, presses, and material-handling cells. That variable-output behavior lets the same machine axis run slowly during setup and faster during production without mechanical reconfiguration.

The controller delivers 22 kW of continuous output and accepts mains from 380 to 480 V. It uses a 3 x AC converter topology, so each phase can vary within ±10 % of nominal without loss of regulation. Motor torque is generated through field-oriented vector control, which aligns stator currents to rotor flux for high dynamic response. This control method helps maintain stable speed and responsive torque when the load changes quickly. The power stage and logic are supplied as a single product, and no auxiliary function boards are installed, leaving the base hardware focused on standard velocity and positioning tasks.

Operation relies on forced air cooling that moves ambient air across the heat sink to maintain semiconductor temperatures during heavy acceleration cycles. A built-in brake chopper directs regenerated energy into an external resistor to protect the DC bus when the motor decelerates quickly. During braking, this arrangement helps prevent bus overvoltage when inertial loads return energy to the controller. Conducted emissions are reduced by the integrated mains filter, minimizing interference with adjacent equipment. This is a generation 1 hardware design, and all function slots remain open.
