The RD52.1-4B-018-D-LV-FW is a three-phase AC drive controller manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. The unit converts fixed-frequency mains power into variable voltage and frequency output so induction or synchronous motors can be adjusted for speed and torque in automated production lines, conveyors, or pump modules. By combining control electronics, power components, and application functions in one enclosure, the device simplifies panel layout and supports centralized or machine-mounted motion control architectures used across general industrial automation.

The drive is rated for 18.5 kW of continuous motor output. Its input circuitry accepts line voltages from 380 to 480 V, allowing deployment on common low-voltage industrial grids. Internally, the device is a 3 × AC converter; it rectifies three sinusoidal input phases, regulates the intermediate bus, and inverts the energy to deliver programmable frequency and amplitude. A built-in brake chopper allows regenerated energy to be dissipated through an external resistor instead of forcing the DC bus to rise. Thermal losses from the IGBT modules are removed by a plug-through cooler that spans the cabinet wall and keeps heat outside the enclosure. This cooling method remains effective up to 110 kW.

Dynamic regulation is achieved with field-oriented vector control, which tracks rotor flux in real time to maintain precise torque even at low speed. An integrated mains filter attenuates conducted emissions, so external RFI components are often unnecessary. Supply fluctuations within ±10 % tolerance are handled without performance loss. The optional cable damping feedback function (C3, D3) supervises output wiring integrity. During plant downtime, a dedicated 24 V stand-by power input keeps the control board active for fieldbus monitoring without energizing the main drives.
