This unit functions as a variable-speed interface between a shared DC link and an AC motor, letting an automation cell adjust torque and speed without mechanical gear changes. By coordinating ramp-up, ramp-down, and steady-state operation, the controller supports repeatable process control in packaging lines, material-handling conveyors, and other applications that rely on precise electrical drive regulation.

The RD51 controller applies U/f curve control, so output voltage rises in proportion to frequency to preserve magnetizing current in standard induction machines. Heat is removed through forced air cooling, which draws cabinet air across internal heat sinks and keeps semiconductor temperatures within normal operating limits. Because it comes without a built-in brake chopper, any dynamic braking energy must be handled by an external resistor when rapid deceleration is required. The unit is Design Generation 1 in the RD line and matches option cards from the same generation. The power stage is sized for drives up to 45 kW, making it suitable for pumps, fans, and other moderate-inertia motor applications.

The DC link operates up to 700 V, allowing the converter to draw energy from a common bus fed by rectifiers or regenerative sources. Its supply topology is Inverter DC, which means the power stage does not connect directly to line voltage and instead receives preconditioned DC from the group supply. Control electronics remain active through a separate 24 V standby power rail, letting communication modules and stored parameters remain available even when the main link is isolated. For long motor leads, integrated cable-damping feedback (C3, D3) detects resonance and compensates for voltage drop to maintain a stable flux reference.
