The RD51.1-7N-200-R-V1-FW drive controller is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. As a three-phase inverter module, it regulates induction motors in conveyor lines, pumps, and similar automated plant equipment by adjusting motor frequency and voltage in response to process commands. The unit forms the central control layer between the DC bus supply and the machine’s motors, providing closed-cabinet integration for high-power industrial automation tasks. It also supports modular accessories such as line filters and I/O cards to suit different installation layouts.

The input is a 530 to 670 V DC link, enabling direct connection to a rectified mains supply or a shared bus. At full rating, the drive outputs 200 kW of mechanical power, so effective heat removal is important during continuous operation. For that reason, it uses liquid cooling with an internal pump (for units ≥132 kW), and the closed circuit removes heat without relying on cabinet airflow. Motor torque is modulated by U/f curve control, which keeps the voltage-to-frequency ratio constant across the speed range. The inverter DC supply supports regenerative operation and use on a shared bus.

The power stage is delivered without a built-in brake chopper, so external dynamic braking hardware is required if fast deceleration is needed. Control electronics remain active when the main bus is off through an external 24 V standby power input, allowing communication and parameter retention during service conditions. The unit is part of design generation 1, so its mechanical dimensions and option boards match the first release of the RD 500 platform. Application-specific functions require a separately ordered firmware subposition. This arrangement allows the base hardware to be matched with the intended control function without changing the drive itself.
