The RD51.1-5N-132-F-LV-FW drive controller is built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. It sits between a three-phase power source and an asynchronous motor in automated plant equipment, shaping the electrical supply so motor speed follows process commands. By varying output frequency, the unit matches motor speed to changing load requirements in fans, conveyors, and pump systems. This type of control is useful where process demand changes during operation and fixed motor speed would waste energy or reduce handling accuracy. Its modular layout also supports different power sections and cooling arrangements for applications that need flexible installation.

The power stage uses a three-phase AC converter front end and accepts line voltages up to 500 V. At that input level, the drive provides a continuous output rating of 132 kW, which allows operation of large induction motors without additional speed-changing hardware. Speed regulation relies on U/f curve control, which keeps motor flux stable by adjusting voltage in step with frequency across the operating range. Because the controller regulates both voltage and frequency, it can provide smooth acceleration and controlled running over a broad speed range. Thermal loading is managed by forced-air cooling with integrated liquid circulation, combining internal airflow over the heat sink with a closed liquid loop to carry away remaining heat.

The unit is supplied without an integrated brake chopper, so applications with rapid deceleration require an external braking solution. The control electronics can remain active on 24 V standby power, which keeps communication and diagnostics available when the main power section is isolated. Performance on long motor cables is improved by cable-damping feedback (C3, D3), which reduces the effects of line resonance and cable capacitance on the drive output. As a generation 1 platform, the unit belongs to the first hardware release of this model.
