The RD51.1-5B-200-R-LV-FW is a drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. In automated plants, it serves as the power interface between an AC mains source and induction motors, adjusting motor speed to match process demands in conveyor lines, pumps, and material-handling stations. This supports variable-speed operation where smooth acceleration and controlled deceleration are needed as load conditions change. The controller uses a generation 1 design.

This model delivers a rated output of 200 kW, allowing it to run high-horsepower machinery from a single enclosure. Incoming power is accepted through a 3 x AC converter input stage that rectifies and inverts three-phase utility service for the motor output section. The DC link and output stage are matched to a mains voltage centered on 500 V, which suits common industrial distribution levels. Motor voltage is regulated by U/f curve control, keeping the volts-per-hertz ratio stable so magnetic flux remains consistent at lower speeds. Thermal stress is managed by liquid cooling with an internal pump, a configuration used on units rated 132 kW and above, so heat is removed directly from the power modules and cabinet heat buildup is reduced.

A built-in brake chopper routes regenerative energy to an external resistor during rapid deceleration, helping prevent DC-link overvoltage trips when the load drives the motor. When the incoming mains are off, the control electronics can stay active through a separate 24 V standby power feed, which allows communication and adjustments without energizing the main converter. Drive tuning is supported by cable-damping feedback (C3, D3), which compensates for long motor leads and helps preserve stable dynamic response when output cable characteristics would otherwise affect motor behavior.
