It converts fixed-frequency mains power into a variable output that allows three-phase induction motors to accelerate, decelerate, and hold speed under closed-loop commands from higher-level PLCs. By combining power electronics, braking circuitry, and diagnostic ports in one housing, the device helps simplify cabinet layouts for packaging lines, material-handling cells, and similar industrial processes. This arrangement also supports stable motor response during routine speed changes and gives the control system access to operating data for monitoring and fault handling.

With a rated output of 5.5 kW, the unit is suited for mid-range pump and fan duties. It accepts line supply through a three-phase AC converter front end and is optimized for grids within a nominal 500 V range. Motor excitation follows a U/f curve control profile, so voltage rises in proportion to frequency to preserve magnetic flux during speed changes. During rapid deceleration, the integrated built-in brake chopper diverts regenerated energy to external resistors and helps prevent DC-link overvoltage events during repeated start-stop cycles. This control method supports smooth ramps where the driven load must change speed without abrupt torque shifts.

Thermal management relies on a plug-through cooler that projects the heat sink outside the enclosure, helping keep internal electronics within normal operating limits and reducing heat buildup inside the cabinet. The function package is Combination C1 + F1, which provides standard speed regulation and an extended feature block for process feedback. The unit is Design generation 1, which matches first-release RD51 mounting dimensions and connector placement. The required drive software is ordered separately, allowing the control functions to be selected for the connected process.
