The RD51.1-4N-004-L-DF-FW is a drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and assigned to the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. It converts three-phase mains power into regulated motor voltage so industrial pumps, fans, or conveyors can be matched to process demands without mechanical gear changes. By adjusting output frequency according to a preset curve, the unit provides speed regulation for general-purpose induction motors used in factory automation. This operating method lets the drive adapt motor speed to application demand while reducing the need for fixed-speed operation in enclosed control cabinets.
This model relies on U/f curve control, which keeps the ratio between stator voltage and frequency constant to maintain motor flux during acceleration and load changes. Thermal management is handled through forced air cooling, and an internal fan moves air across heat-dissipating surfaces so the controller can run continuously in compact enclosures. The power section accepts a mains input of 380 to 480 V and tolerates supply fluctuations of ±10 %, allowing installation on common industrial grids without additional stabilization hardware. Incoming power is routed through a Converter 3 x AC rectifier-inverter stage that produces a variable output frequency for motor control. The controller also includes a feedback channel for current filter monitoring at U6, V6, and W6.
The unit is delivered without a built-in brake chopper, so external dynamic-braking hardware is required if rapid deceleration under regenerative load is expected. A factory-installed integrated line filter reduces high-frequency noise in multi-drive cabinets. The unit is part of Design Generation 1, which matches the early RD 500 mechanical layout and connector arrangement. Control terminals are presented on a NAMUR terminal strip with external 24 V stand-by power interface, which helps maintain logic power during mains outages. This arrangement supports orderly control wiring and keeps the low-voltage standby supply separate from the mains input path.
