Bosch Rexroth Indramat manufactures the RD51.1-4N-001-L-NN-FW, a drive controller in the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. It is intended to modulate the voltage and frequency delivered to standard induction motors so that speed and torque can be matched to real-time process requirements in conveyors, mixers, or pump stations. By converting fixed line power into a variable output profile, the unit helps reduce energy consumption, limit mechanical stress, and support closed-loop automation through an upstream PLC.

The controller is supplied as a three-phase AC converter, meaning it accepts three-phase line power and rectifies it internally before generating a controlled AC output. Its input section is rated for 380 to 480 V, accommodating most industrial low-voltage networks, and it can tolerate deviations of ±10% without shutting down. Motor excitation follows a U/f curve control characteristic, so the ratio between output voltage and frequency stays constant across the drive range, which is suitable for constant-torque applications. Thermal management relies on forced air cooling, which uses an internal fan to move cabinet air across heat sinks and keep component temperatures within safe limits.

Conducted emissions are reduced by the integrated line filter, which lessens the need for external line reactors. Dynamic braking hardware is omitted; the design is without a built-in brake chopper, so external resistors or regenerative units must be added if rapid deceleration is required. It is a Generation 1 device, so its housing and terminal layout match the original RD 500 mechanical footprint, and the option board slots are not equipped, leaving space for future I/O or fieldbus modules. Application software is ordered as a separate subposition so the drive can be matched to the required feature set.
