The RD51.1-4B-030-L-NN-FW is a drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. Installed between plant mains and a three-phase induction motor, the unit converts line voltage to the variable frequency and amplitude required for closed-loop motion tasks. Its integrated brake chopper lets equipment recover or dissipate regenerated energy, and the design supports automation roles such as conveyor drives, pumps, and material-handling axes that run on a 400 V industrial network.
The converter accepts three-phase mains of 380 to 480 V and tolerates ±15% deviation, matching its nominal 3 AC 400 V rating. This Generation 1 platform uses a three-phase AC supply stage sized for a motor output of 30 kW. An integrated mains filter suppresses conducted noise, and U/f curve control feeds the motor with the correct frequency-to-voltage ratio. Continuous duty is limited to 37 kVA and 56 A, while a 112 A surge for 0.5 s covers rapid acceleration at 4 kHz switching. Forced air removes heat at 0.1 m³/s, and the IP20 housing is intended for cabinet mounting. Digital inputs draw 8.6 mA, and a 24 V rail delivers 50 mA for sensors.
A built-in chopper stages braking energy into an external resistor network; its continuous limit is 19 kW and it can absorb 74 kW for short bursts, provided the resistor is at least 8.8 Ω and wired with a minimum protective-earth cross-section of 10 mm². The power section is safeguarded by a maximum series fuse of 63 A, and the semiconductor modules are rated for a 60 s overload of 73 A at the same switching frequency used for the rated data. Environmental classification 3K3 allows installation in control rooms where dust and moisture are moderate, provided ambient temperature does not exceed 40 °C and relative humidity stays below 90%. Component tolerances remain within ±10%, and the unit is supplied without optional technology functions.
