The RD51.1-4B-003-D-NN-P1-NN-FW is a drive controller developed by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. Intended for cabinet-mounted conversion stages in industrial automation, the unit matches three-phase induction motors to the plant mains and allows steady or variable speed operation without external load-side gearing. By translating line voltage into regulated pulses and monitoring current flow, the controller provides the power interface between programmable logic devices and the mechanical axis they supervise.

In normal operation, the controller accepts a line window of 380 to 480 V three-phase power delivered through a converter input. Within this range, the electronics can accommodate a mains fluctuation of ±10% without derating. Output capability is rated at 3.0 kW, which is suitable for small pumps, blowers, or conveyor sections within the RD 500 thermal envelope. Speed adjustment is executed with U/f curve control, a method that preserves the magnetic flux of the connected motor by lowering voltage in direct proportion to frequency. The supply interface uses a Converter 3 × AC configuration, and no auxiliary application functions are installed.

Dynamic energy from rapid deceleration is handled internally by a built-in brake chopper that diverts excess DC-link voltage to resistor banks. Continuous thermal stability is aided by a plug-through cooler (up to 110 kW); heat is transferred through the mounting panel so the enclosure remains compact inside crowded switchgear rows. EMI suppression is addressed with an integrated mains filter, which reduces conducted noise on neighboring instrumentation. The hardware belongs to Design Generation 1, indicating compatibility with first-generation RD 500 option modules. The option slot is present but not equipped, so additional I/O, fieldbus, or safety cards can be added without mechanical changes.
