The RD43.1-3R-185-R-NN-FW drive controller is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. It is installed between a plant’s PLC and the power stage of large AC machines, converting command signals into precise voltage and frequency patterns that govern motor speed and torque. By doing so, it supports coordinated motion profiles and controlled acceleration ramps in heavy conveyor lines, presses, and other energy-intensive equipment found in automated manufacturing cells. This type of control is useful where large loads must start smoothly and maintain stable speed under changing process demand.

This model supports a continuous power rating of 185 kW, so it can operate sizable production axes without derating. The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, which protects internal electronics from accidental contact but requires placement inside a closed electrical cabinet. Thermal management uses liquid cooling with an internal pump (≥ 132 kW), and circulating coolant removes heat directly from the power semiconductors. During rapid deceleration, the unit routes regenerated energy back to the mains because it is supplied without a brake chopper. The hardware is in Design Generation 1, which indicates the first RD43 mechanical layout and connector arrangement. This cooling method also reduces dependence on high-volume cabinet airflow.

The required software package must be ordered separately so the unit can be matched to the driven motor type and fieldbus protocol. The base hardware arrives without optional technology functions, leaving slots free for later application modules. As a Drive Controller, it exchanges setpoints and diagnostic data with higher-level motion systems through standardized RD backplane interfaces. This arrangement keeps the base unit focused on drive regulation while allowing application-specific expansion when needed.
