The RAC3.5-150-460-D01-W1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. Designed for integration in machining centers and automated lines, it converts mains energy into controlled three-phase output for high-performance spindle motors and manages regenerative power returned during braking. This makes it suitable for spindle applications that require fast speed changes and stable torque delivery.

During sustained operation, the inverter supplies a continuous controller current of 92 A, which translates to 35 kW of thermal output at the nominal switching rate. When the carrier frequency is raised to 8 kHz, the continuous capability is limited to 30 kW to protect the power stage. Its regeneration circuit can dissipate up to 27 kW without thermal overload, while the internal logic and gate drives draw only 200 VA of control power. An auxiliary 24 V, 1 A DC port feeds external sensors or spindle brakes so peripheral loads do not burden the controller. These electrical margins help the drive maintain constant spindle speed during heavy cutting and safely return excess energy to the DC link.

The housing weighs 49 kg and measures 690 mm in height, 380 mm in width, and 300 mm in depth for cabinet mounting. For short acceleration bursts, the unit delivers a peak controller output of 40 kW, a value that matches its peak regeneration capacity during rapid reversals. Encoder processing offers a position resolution of 1/4,000,000 rev, supporting very fine tool path control. The enclosure carries an IP10 rating, so it requires installation in a protected electrical area with adequate airflow. Operation is permitted at ambient temperatures up to +55 °C and at installation altitudes up to 1000 m without derating.
