Product Description:
The RAC3.1-150-460-A0I-W1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller from Bosch Rexroth Indramat in the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. It is intended for high-speed machining centers and similar automated equipment where the spindle serves as the primary rotary axis for cutting operations. The unit converts three-phase supply power into regulated spindle torque and speed commands, forming the link between a CNC control and the machine's main motor.
The drive supplies a continuous output current of 92 A, which is the steady-state load the internal power section can deliver without derating. Its continuous mechanical power reaches 35 kW, which suits midsize milling or turning spindles that run for long periods under constant chip load. For brief acceleration bursts, the controller can source 150 A and deliver up to 40 kW, covering rapid spindle ramp-up while protecting the semiconductor devices. Only 200 VA of control power is required for logic, relays, and fans. Cooling is handled by a built-in fan that moves air across the heat sinks, and the IP10 housing allows airflow while guarding against accidental contact. The analog speed setpoint input enables direct connection to traditional motion cards or potentiometer circuits.
Energy returned from decelerating loads is routed through the internal regeneration section, which can dissipate 27 kW continuously and up to 40 kW at peak without an external bleeder. Position feedback forwarding is available through an incremental encoder output, allowing downstream controllers to monitor spindle position. The unit has a total mass of 49 kg, which helps when planning cabinet installation and service access. Its overall dimensions are 690 mm in height, 380 mm in width, and 300 mm in depth. These dimensions set the cabinet space needed around the drive for mounting and airflow clearance.
