The Bosch Rexroth Indramat RAC3.1-150-460-A0I-W1 is an AC main spindle drive controller in the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. It supplies regulated three-phase power to high-speed machine-tool spindles, translating analog speed commands into precise motor torque for metal-cutting and forming centers. By integrating closed-loop current regulation, the controller acts as the interface between the plant CNC and the spindle motor, managing acceleration, steady-state running, and regenerative braking within the automation cell.
It delivers a continuous armature current of 92 A, corresponding to a sustained shaft power output of 35 kW under rated thermal conditions. For short-term loading, the drive can reach a spindle demand of 40 kW without exceeding component limits. Internal logic and field excitation are supplied from the control section, which accepts a mains control supply of 220 V AC and draws 200 VA. Cooling is handled by a built-in fan, and the forced-air circuit must receive at least 300 m³/h of airflow to keep semiconductor junctions within limits. The analog speed interface processes ±10 V setpoints from the CNC, and signal feedback is available through a 15-way incremental encoder channel for velocity matching.
During rapid deceleration, the inverter can return up to 27 kW to the DC link while the line side withstands a momentary phase current of 150 A. The ventilation path tolerates a static pressure drop of 160 Pa, which allows the cooling path to function properly with remote blower arrangements when needed. The enclosure has an IP10 rating, so the unit must be mounted inside a cabinet with filtered air. Wiring access is organized through a 9-way setpoint connector, and no secondary encoder input is provided. The unit has a mass of 49 kg, which supports stable panel mounting.
