The RAC2.3-150-460-A01-Z1 is an AC main spindle drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. The unit regulates induction or synchronous spindles on machining centers. It provides closed-loop speed and torque control that aligns the cutting process with programmed CNC profiles in industrial automation.
The controller accepts a three-phase supply of 3 × AC 400 V/50 Hz; 460 V/60 Hz, so it can be wired directly to standard European or North American mains without a step-up transformer. Its power section is sized for 150 A of continuous output, providing the current capacity required by large-frame spindle motors during acceleration. The housing has an IP10 protection rating, which helps prevent fingers and large solid objects from contacting live parts when the controller is mounted inside a cabinet. Thermal management relies on a built-in fan that forces air through the heat sink. This cooling arrangement supports operation at full output in ambient temperatures up to +45 °C. Encoder feedback from the motor connects to the X3 IKS-315 port, while the X13 IKS-323 port sends an incremental encoder replica to external position controllers. An auxiliary bleeder resistor is integrated to dissipate regenerated energy during rapid deceleration.
The drive remains functional with derated output at ambient temperatures up to +55 °C when cabinet airflow reaches at least 360 m³/h and static pressure remains below 390 Pa. Installation is permitted at altitudes up to 1000 m without additional derating, making the controller suitable for most industrial locations. The speed reference is provided through an analog ±10 V signal on the X4 IKS-613 connector, allowing direct connection to conventional voltage-command CNC hardware. No auxiliary encoder input is available, so the control system must use the primary feedback channel from the spindle. This feedback arrangement supports direct monitoring of spindle speed and position through the controller’s dedicated motor encoder connection.
