The RAC2.2-200-460-A01-Z1 is an AC main spindle drive controller manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. In a machining center or similar automation cell, this unit converts three-phase line power into a controlled output for high-speed spindle motors while also supervising braking energy and operator safety circuits. By combining power electronics, fault monitoring, and command interfaces in one enclosure, it serves as the central drive element for precision spindle positioning, stable speed regulation, and controlled deceleration during duty cycles that include frequent starts and stops.
The controller delivers a continuous mechanical output of 55 kW to the spindle and can return up to 37 kW to the DC link during sustained regenerative operation. Incoming supply must be 3 × AC 460 V, 60 Hz, and the internal control loops accept a speed setpoint through an analog (±10 V) channel. Feedback is interpolated to a resolution of 1/4,000,000 rev for fine contouring tasks, and the drive supports short-term acceleration at the same power level without thermal overload. The integrated additional bleeder absorbs excess DC-bus energy when the dynamic brake is active, keeping link voltage within allowable limits. Current and voltage levels are sized so that continuous regeneration does not exceed cable or heat sink capability.
Thermal management relies on a built-in fan that moves the required 360 m³/h of cooling air against a maximum static pressure of 390 Pa, so cabinet ducting must not restrict flow. The housing has a protection class of IP 10, which limits installation to clean indoor environments, and altitude is restricted to 1000 m to maintain rated insulation distances. An emergency stop switch and a mains contactor are already wired inside the housing, reducing the number of external control components needed around the drive. Total mass is 121 kg, which affects mounting support, lifting method, and vibration isolation during installation.
