Product Description:
The RAC 3.5-200-460-APD-Z1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. Installed between the AC line supply and the motor, the unit governs spindle speed and torque for machine-tool applications. It supports closed-loop positioning during orientation tasks and stable high-speed operation during cutting cycles. This makes it suitable for automated manufacturing cells that require repeatable spindle control.
To match different plant power networks, the controller accepts a three-phase input of 3 x AC 400 V, 50 Hz, ±15% or 3 x AC 460 V. Once energized, it can deliver up to 200 A of armature current, permitting direct connection to large-frame spindle motors. Heat generated at this current level is removed by a built-in blower, so separate cabinet airflow is not required. Velocity reference is provided through an analog (±10 V) speed command that interfaces easily with conventional CNC modules, while incremental moves can be issued through a 16-bit parallel digital position setpoint input. An internal bleeder resistor, an auxiliary encoder channel, and Series 3 Version 5 circuitry complete the drive’s primary power and control path.
Supplementary functions help the drive manage regeneration, feedback, and low-voltage service power. The integrated energy dump includes an additional bleeder, allowing rapid deceleration without tripping the DC link during braking events. Signals from a high-resolution INDRAMAT encoder can be brought in through the auxiliary input for accurate spindle orientation, and all low-level conductors terminate on an X4, 9-pole connector for orderly wiring. Logic and gate arrays are supplied separately at AC 230 V / 50–60 Hz, which isolates the control electronics from the high-energy line supply.
